Great review, Roberta! The humorous part for me is “a perspective of the war from another side other than German, American, allied forces, etc, which there’s plenty material out there”, because of the fact that millions of people in Eastern Europe have had it the other way around till recently. Just amazing how books, history tellers can raise generations in different parts of the world with a complete oposite history percieve.

You should definitel read Trainspotting and connect the dots. Also, I thought the subtext showed implicitly why Renton embraced and fell into junkie life by the end of the novel. It was a tapestry of reasons, not just one. This book absolutely blew me away, and topped Trainspotting and Porno effortlessly.

Hi! I very much liked the fact that we don’t really know when the story is set.. it could be in the future but may as well be in the present or even a few years past, which makes it quite scary when you think about it. I wonder if the people in the outside world (apart from teachers at Hailsham) knew what was happening, was it common knowledge .. ?

I’ve never thought about the enviroment in relation to books, and i never finish one book, always stop at the middle and drop it.
But about kindle, is an idea to start reading, hehehe.
Last week, i told Bruno to tell you about the David Gilmour’s Book “The Film Club”, recently buy it from the submarino, was about 12,90(R$), and the story is good, and talk about MOVIES, a Father and your fifteen years old son.

Oi Roberta! Parabéns pela idéia de criar um espaço para conversas sobre livros.

Uns dias atrás li uma resenha sobre o filme baseado nesse livro. Realmente é bem interessante a a discussão que ele propoe. Que tipo de sociedade cria “mosntros” como esse? De quem é a culpa? Questões que provávelmete o livro não responda, mas que nos levam a repensar nossas práticas e valores. Vou tentar conseguir o livro para ler antes de ver o filme. Valeu pela dica!
