Port Mortuary

Author: Patricia Cornwell

I am a big fan of Kay Scarpetta – she is very talented, determined, professional, perfectionist and direct – but in this book she is weird, as everyone else.

To start with, she is yet in another place (not New York, but Cambridge, as the head of Cambridge Forensic Center), but actually she’s been off for 6 months, training in Dover, and how can she be away for such a long time without knowing what is going on in the place she’s supposed to manage? Very unlikely of her. And why no one has told her what is happening there? Then there is all this insecurity, no one has a real conversation with each other, Benton and Lucy are full of secrets, and Marino is just there, simple as that.

And the story – I think it was way too much – nanotechnology and all that stuff are nice, but at one point I lost it.

There’s no connection to the characters, and they are not connecting themselves – a lot of lose ends, and a secret from her past that came from nowhere (if it was so important, why it was mentioned only now?).

I just hope next Scarpetta’s book is back on track.
