Bloodlines Series – Bloodlines (book 1)

The Bloodlines Series consists of 6 books, with only the 1st one published to this date. It’s called “spin-off series”, as it will use the same characters and universe of Vampire Academy series – the difference being that now it’s not Rose Hathaway telling the story, but some of her friends.
Bloodlines is told by Sydney Sage, the Alchemist.
The Alchemists are humans who know about the vampire world and are in charge of getting rid of Strigoi bodies and any mess they are involved in, in order to protect human race from knowing about vampires. They have a great knowledge of chemistry and potions, and despite working with Moroi, they do not like vampires and dhampirs at all.

First of all, I’m not going to review each of the 6 books in separate posts because I read them one after the other and it’s easier for me to just do an overall review about it.
In the Vampire Academy Series, vampires are pale (as usual) and very slim, they can be in the sun (but it’s painful) and they feed from humans that are called “donors” – these humans are normally junkies who are addicted to the substance released in the vampire bite, so they willingly offer their blood to get “high”. Each vampire has the ability to use water, air, fire or earth, and there are some very rare cases when one doesn’t specialize in any of the elements, but develops the ability to heal others (they are called spirit users).
There are two kinds of vampires: the good ones, called Moroi, who are ruled by a monarch, are peaceful and mortals; and the bad ones, called Strigoi, who are evil creatures that kill humans, have an unbelievable strength and speed, and are immortal.
